Wednesday is Hockey Day!

I can’t wait for Wednesday. It’s my first hockey practice in ten years! The equipment has been bought, and the excitement is mounting. The only thing I’m missing now is a practice jersey. I can’t wait!

Hockey for Jason!

Egad! Hockey equipment is a lot more expensive in Japan than in Canada! I guess that is the price I pay for my passion! If hockey won’t come to me this season, then I’m coming to it. Apparently, I get an ID card that allows me into the dressing room areas of all the major rinks in Iwate-ken. Odd, but I guess it’s a necessity. Perhaps I’ve said too much already.
In other news, I will be climbing Mount Iwaki this weekend. Why am I climbing a 1400 meter mountain when winter is coming soon? Because I can, that’s why. If I survive, you’ll hear about it next week. The last time I scaled a mountain like this was when I was in 6th grade. Ahh, the memories.

Rained out!

I hate rain! I was supposed to go to the prefectural koshien* baseball qualifying tournament on Saturday, and it was cancelled due to rain. Though, no one bothered to call me and let me know, so I ended up waiting for the return bus for three hours, in the rain. Though, 5 minutes before the bus came, a nice man picked me up and gave me a lift back to Senmaya. I found out he used to be a former high school teacher at Fujisawa High School(The school I was at for the baseball game.) If it’s one thing I can depend on in Japan, it’s the kindness of strangers. Though, I’m not sure if it’s a forced kindness or genuine. Either way, I’ll take it. I did find out that when my team did play they crushed their opponents 10-0. Not too shabby. But they still have to win 5 more games. All of them elimination games.

Other than that it’s been a slow week. School is done for a month(summer holidays), so I’m spending my time in the office now instead. I plan on taking some holidays at some point, I’m just not sure when I should take them. I was thinking of going to Hokkaido, but they recommend a car for that. Speaking of cars, did you know that if you get a speeding ticket in Japan, you have to apologize to you office, your boss and your town. In my opinion, a speeding ticket is between me and the court I have to pay it to. I don’t think I’d ever get one, but it just shows that Japan is still a country that rules by shame. I guess North America would be the opposite(after all, we have no shame.) No wonder the suicide rate in this country is still so high. But I guess that’s a cultural difference I have had to adjust to.

*For those of you who don’t know, Koshien is The National high school baseball tournament. I’d say it’s even more popular than pro ball here.

Sports day, Hurray!

I played basketball this morning at my High School. It was all for the sports day, where each class(and staff) compete for the title of best in school. My team was up 12-7 in the first half, but we ran out of energy in the second half and class 2A took us out. I was covered in sweat for a good two hours, but now I’ve developed a lust for sport. Bring it on baby!!!!

Would you pay to go into space? I’m thinking I would, once I get over my fear of flying.

They play hockey here?

Hockey night in Iwate

On Wednesday I went to Morioka with Greg, a friend of mine here in Iwate. I watched his team play hockey, and after everyone found out I could skate, they wanted me to join as well. So it looks like next year, I will be playing hockey for the Bishumon rubbish. Odd name I know, but they have Florida Panther Jerseys. Can’t wait. Now I just have to get all the equipment together. It’s a B pool, but it’s still good fun.

The good ol’ hockey game!

Team huddle!

They even have a ref and two linesmen!!

I’ve been dreaming of playing hockey again. And now I can realize my hockey dreams and my Japan dream all at once. Life is good.

Run Jason, Run!

So today, I decided I wanted to find out just how far I couldĀ run. I had planned on going for a run with my friend Sarah. We did the usual Senmaya run, but aferwards, we took a ride in her car and saw that we’d run 6.15km. Not to bad IMO. That means I now run about 25km a week. Now I just need to know what I should be doing to start my training for the half marathon. Yikes. A half marathon! I’ve only been running for a year and a quarter. Maybe it’s too soon?

Run around

Wednesday Update: I started running again. Feels good and painful at the same time. But it’s nice to be able to get excercise again. Even though I’m losing weight, I want to be healthy as well. So here is to Jason ver 2.0. Which should be done sometime in the new year. I’m hoping mabye to get a beta release out around chirstmas..^_-
