Its hard to describe in words what I have experienced in the last few days. Being in Seoul is an eye opening experience. This is my first time in a country where I cannot speak the language. At times, I am helpless. I now understand why so many people have culture shock when they come to Japan. I could speak it, so I never had that problem. My first thought was to flee back to Japan, but then common sense set in.
After a day of exploring, I began to really enjoy my time in Seoul. The food is cheap and delicious. They have these bars called hofs, where you can eat and drink really cheap beer. Korean food is awesome! Even more awesome than the korean food I’ve eaten in Japan or Canada. I also bought myself a new pair of glasses here. They were so cheap. I have declared Korea the land of sensible eyewear. Everyone here looks stunning with glasses. The subway system is dirt cheap, and really awesome. I’m staying at a intimate little lodge called Kim’s Gueshouse and tomorrow I’m leaving the city tomorrow and explore the Korean country side. I’m flying back to Nagoya on Sunday, and will be back in Iwate on Monday.
