For those times

I was at one of my elementary schools, having my self a nice little chat with one of the teachers.  She asked me if I had a problem with doing two classes on the 24th, instead of the one I was scheduled for.  I expressed that it wasn’t a problem at all. In fact it was a pleasure to enlighten and educate those sweet little faces.  She was very pleased with this and happy that I never had a problem with any requests.  I did mention that I would only have a problem if I were to be double booked.  She laughed and said, “その時のため、分身の術(sonotokinotame, bunjin no jutsu.)

Basically, in English it means “For those times, you’d need the special body splitting techinique(used by ninjas)” She was so shocked that I understood what she was talking about, she almost fell over.  I told her I learned it in a book.  I will never reveal the true source of my information.

Shitty Japanese animated show about pansy, teenage ninjas never make good reference material.

Dai-Cast Episode 30: Vice Cast

Every week, I co-host a podcast on current Japanese events as seen through the eyes of a Canadian. I thought I would start to mention these episodes on this blog since they are related to what i talk about here. In this week’s episode, we focus on some of the more risque aspects of Japanese society. We debate the live of an AV director(that’s porn for those of you who don’t know), look at the recent purchase of Sleeman by Sapporo beer and explore the seedy world of Enjo Kosai(Sex for money.)

It takes a great deal of efforts to produce these shows and bring them out on a weekly basis. We feel that Dai-Cast brings you a perspective on Japanese culture and life that you might not get elsewhere. Therefore, I encourage to listen to an episode and see what we’re all about.

    Comiket 68 #8

I took the train down to Odaiba for Comiket 68 and spent the afternoon hanging out with my cosplayer friends. Comiket is a bi-annual comic convention that attracts around 400 000 people. I don’t care for cosplayers all that much, but since I was there, I thought I might take a few pictures. I was really impressed by the amount of work that these people put into their costumes. They were also able to deal with the 30 plus degree temperatures. This was something that I was unable to do. I was only able to tolerate the heat until around three pm. Then we took off for a nice refreshing beer and some dinner.

    ….and sometimes bear.

The weather is fine, and sometimes bear.

If you have no clue about what I’m talking about, then you need to go here. Please enjoy! I wish I had thought of this one.

Basically, he is taking old Penny-Arcade comics and letting Japanese school kids run wild with them. Brilliant.

    Anime Expo Tokyo 2004

Well I just got back from AnimeExpo Tokyo. My honest thoughts on the con were that I had more fun outside of the it then I did on the site. I thought that just hanging out with my friends Karl, Chris, Erica and Sunnli after the events were done for the day. There really should not be a American Anime convention in Japan. There is no need for one at all. Tokyo is your dealers room. Although I must admit that the live concerts were quite good. We spent about 1 hour at Animate in Ikebokuro, where there are 9 floors of anime goodness. Then I realized that I don’t even have to go down to Tokyo for this. There is an animate in Morioka. Right in my own prefecture….>_
