The Hatred Continues…

People and companies are going to great lengths to anger me these days. Let’s take Nintendo for example. They have the nerve to release a new portable game system, and refuse to release any decent games for it. Thank you, asshats! Oh, and let’s not forget Sony. You think you precious PSP is better? Yeah, I know all about your button issues. Well I’ve had enough. As a consumer, I believe I’m guaranteed a certain assurance of quality. I put away some money to purchase either one or the other. But I’m so angry now, that I’ve decided that neither company is worth my time. In revenge, I just up and donated every cent to the Tsunami relief fund. Yeah, you heard me! You’ll never get that money now! You had your chance.

I’ve been burned pretty bad this winter. In spite of this, I’ve devised a way to heal those burns. Anytime a business or person slights me in anyway, I’m going to take the money that I would have invested in them and just dump it in some random Red Cross relief effort. That will teach them! Bastards!

Yumel, how you make me weep!

I was hoping to find something that might brighten my tenebrious disposition. Sadly, Japan has a way of taking my frown and sending it even further into the depths. I actually shed tears when I read this article on the Yumel, a talking doll that keeps old people from going senile. The elderly should never have to resort to using a doll in order to find solace in such a ridiculous world. Will those cherry blossoms never come? You can read the article here! Thank you Japan and Yahoo for ruining my day!

The Sadness of Spring

On Thursday, during my conversation class, I posed a simple question to my students. I asked them what season they liked the least. I wanted them to work on expressing negative sentiments as well as the usual positive ones. I got the usual range of answers from Summer (Because it’s too hot) to Winter(Because slipping and dying isn’t all that fun.) One of my students, however, said that he really disliked spring. I was taken aback by this statement. I asked him why he thought spring was such a bad season. He told me that in Japan, spring is the season for parting ways. Schools have their graduation ceremonies and companies will soon be transferring their employees to different branch offices. He said that most of the sad memories in his life were during the spring time.

I had never thought of spring like that before. For me, Spring has always been a happy season. However, this spring I have had to do some parting of my own. Some of it was my own doing, while I guess other things sort of just happened. You never want to have to part ways, but I guess that is something we cannot choose. For the first time in my life Spring has left a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth.

I’m sure it’s a sadness that will soon be parting as well, as the cherry blossoms slowly find their way out in the first light of spring. As I reflect on those old ties that seem to have lost their bindings, I hope that some of them might still have reason to hold together, while I will bid farewell to those that have forever slipped apart and into the darkness. I eagerly await those cherry blossoms.

Japanese Poster of the Week #2

I promise to try and have a new poster up every week. It’s not as easy as I thought it would be. Anyways, on with this week’s entry:
Japanese people love cute things. They tend to put them everywhere. This is one particular example. It’s a sports recreation festival that is coming up this October. I don’t think this advertising would go over so well in Canada.

Where were you on February 16th?

Where were you on February 16th? That was the day the NHL decided to cancel the 2004-2005 season. I heard about it, even though I am currently living in Japan. When hockey is your favorite sport, it’s hard not to know about it. This news, added to the slew of other bad things that have happened to me this week, has taken it’s total. For the first time since I came to Japan, I am showing signs of depression. It’s nothing serious, and could possible be related to culture shock. But I am not very happy at this time. Not only am I depressed, but I’m rather angry as well. My one desire is that warm spring days come soon. I think it is the only thing that can help me at this time.

Tis the year of the….

Cock. That’s right, you heard me. In Japan, we’ve had plenty of cock since January. In fact, there was cock all over our postcards. It looks like Korea and China are about to join in on our little cock party. That’s right folks. It’s going to be cock all year long. Can you handle all the cock? I sure hope so? To all of you who celebrate Chinese New Year’s, Happy Year of the Cock! Cock-o-doddle-doooooooo!

In other news, I’ve started a blog for my Eikaiwa(conversation class) in Senmaya. You can fine it if you go to http://senkaiwa.blogspot.com. I’m hoping I’ll get my students to post on here eventually.
